Twenty three years ago, the controversy about sinking ships to create artificial reefs was raging. All of the sudden, a cargo ship sank in Venezuelan waters, creating a legal battle between environmentalist, insurance companies and the Venezuelan government. After documenting the wreck site for five years, this sunken ship demonstrated how a ship could become an artificial reef. We were fortunate to be there.
